Responsibilities

Essential Functions
- Engage in and role model direct conflict resolution and mediation
- Maintain Confidentiality in accordance with Alaska Statute 18.66.200
- Maintain a working knowledge of Federal and State laws that affect victims of domestic violence and sexual assault
- Implement policies, protocols, and services designed to provide case management and support to in-shelter residents who are or have experienced domestic violence and/or sexual assault on a weekly basis:
- Advocate on behalf of residents to access community support and resources for safety, treatment, behavioral/mental/medical health, parenting, etc.;
- Provide safety planning around independent living and be a referral source to IAC’s housing program;
- Provide safety planning around legal needs and be a referral source to IAC’s legal program
- Assist residents to research and apply for sustainable income such as employment, SSI/SSDI, public assistance benefits, etc.;
- Provide transportation using agency vehicles to appropriate appointments;
- Provide back-up advocacy, to include remaining on the shelter advocate schedule for coverage.
- Provide back-up advocacy to victims of sexual assault and domestic violence at the hospital as requested through law enforcement and forensic nursing
- Facilitate or co-facilitate groups as needed
- Provide back-up as necessary for court advocacy when legal advocate is unable to attend
- Assist with training of new staff as necessary and as appropriate
- Provide on-call support to staff as assigned; on-call shifts have additional compensation
- Maintain accurate client records including statistical records, file management, and summary of contacts according to IAC confidentiality policies and program procedures
- Implement procedures to ensure the safety of the building
- Communicate maintenance requests to the appropriate individual(s)
- Other Duties as assigned by the Advocacy Director
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services, Psychology, Social Work or a related field; sufficient job, school, or life experience may be used in lieu of education
- One (1) year experience in case management.
- Demonstrated experience working with vulnerable population
- Excellent interpersonal, group, and written communication skills
- Proficient with computers and ability to do data entry
- Ability to handle sensitive issues in a mature, confidential manner with integrity and compassion
- Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and lifestyles
- Must possess executive maturity, sound judgment, and act as a team player.
- Valid Driver’s License
- Commitment to agency mission and goals
- Ability to pass background check
Preferred Qualifications:
- Three (3) years or more of experience in case management
- Knowledge of Alaskan Cultures, Fairbanks community, and other social service agencies
- Experience working with survivors of Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, or Human Trafficking
Supervision: Directly responsible to the Advocacy Director
Hours: 37.5 hours per week and based on needs of the program; may include weekends and evenings
