Run for Respect

The first annual Run for Respect event for the Interior Alaska Center for Non-Violent Living (IAC) is September 14, 2024 at Pioneer Park. Run for Respect is a non-competitive 5K run/walk and a fun opportunity for you and your organization to get involved in raising awareness about domestic violence and support survivors in our community. The Interior Alaska Center for Non-Violent Living is an essential and critical link for providing meaningful services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, dating violence, and human trafficking in Interior Alaska. In a recent Community Health Needs Assessment, the issue of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault was ranked 3rd by residents as a top health concern.  A 2020 study done by the UAA Justice Center found that 34.6% or 11,749 women in the Fairbanks North Star Borough had experienced intimate partner violence during their lifetime, and 10.8% or 1,164 women in the Borough had experienced this violence in the last twelve months. Approximately 22% of homeless individuals entering our community Homeless Management Information System are fleeing domestic violence.
